On June 17th from 8am – 11am join Salty Dog and Dixie Divers as we host our annual pier cleanup. Registration starts at 7:30am in front of the pier. It is open to everyone, divers, snorkelers, surface support and pier support.
Participants will receive free parking at the pier and a FREE event T-Shirt.
Volunteers are needed to dive the pier and for the land duties such as pulling up the buckets the divers will fill with mono-filament line and lead sinkers and to co-ordinate the surface onlookers. SUPs will be available for volunteers to use or you may bring your own!
The City of Deerfield Beach will keep records of the trash weights and different composition. Dixie Divers will be videotaping the divers and volunteers who participate for a DVD that will be given to City of Deerfield Beach and Broward County for their environmental education programs. The Pier dive is one of the most popular for local divers because of the variety of creatures and the abundance of life there. Normally closed to divers because of fishing this once a year treat lets us help the environment and dive a forbidden spot all at the same time.
Immediately following the cleanup, we will be conducting a GUINNESS WORLD RECORD attempt for the longest human chain underwater. This event is open to certified divers only. Please contact Dixie Divers in advance at (954) 420-0009 to sign up. Pending successful completion of the record participants will be eligible for a free Official Record Holder Shirt. Please come help us bring the world record to South Florida!
